Dani Cook

Dani Cook was born in Zimbabwe and spent her early childhood in the bushveld of Hwange National Park, near Bulawayo. Her parents managed a restaurant in the park, and weekends were spent on game drives, where her love of the natural world first took root. Her father was an avid birdwatcher, and together they would spend hours spotting birds and paging through field guides to identify the many species they encountered.

As life in Zimbabwe became increasingly difficult, her family relocated to Cape Town, where Dani developed a deep connection with the ocean through surfing.

After completing a degree in Sculpture at the Michaelis School of Fine Art, Dani began a career in the film industry, working as a sculptor, fabricator, and 3D modeller, creating sets and props for film productions.

Alongside her film work, Dani has remained dedicated to her artistic practice. Inspired by the natural world, her paintings are rich with birds, rolling waves, and forest imagery. Working with layers of acrylic paint, charcoal, and spray paint, she creates textured, multi-layered compositions that balance bold abstract forms with vibrant colour and intricate detail.

Her process embraces spontaneity, allowing unexpected forms and narratives to emerge as she works. Each brushstroke invites an element of serendipity, creating a dialogue between intention and intuition that evokes the energy, movement, and spirit of the natural world.
